2. Natioanl Forum on Food Security

The 4th National Seminar on Food Security and Nutrition is to be organized for two days in Phnom Penh some time in 3rd week of May 2012 by the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) in collaboration with other Government agencies (MoH, MoP, SNEC, MAFF, MRD,....) and with support of development partners (USAID, UNICEF, WHO, WFP, and CARITAS) under the theme “Improving Child and Maternal Nutrition in Cambodia”.  The National Seminar will build on the experiences of the aforesaid three high-level "National Seminars on Food Security and Nutrition", and will be opened by H.E. Dr. Yim Chhay Ly, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of CARD and will be closed by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. 
Objectives of the National Seminar: 
 1.    To present and discuss current trends and challenges on child and maternal nutrition based on recent data and study results

 2.    To present and discuss strategies, plans and approaches to improve child and maternal nutrition in Cambodia with regards to their effectiveness  and potential for scaling up

 3.    To explore ways to reinforce complementarities between sectors and stakeholders and to strengthen coordination at national and sub-national levels

 4.    To identify gaps in actions and get guidance for a road map to enhance child and maternal nutrition in Cambodia  indicating roles and responsibilities of relevant government institutions

3. 2012 Pre-season Monsoon Forum

 The Council for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Caritas Cambodia in collaboration with key government stakeholders and the Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) is jointly organizing the National Pre-Season Monsoon Forum on 3-4 May 2012, at Sunway Hotel, Phnom Penh. The objectives of the meeting are to:
1.    review the dry season that has just concluded in terms of patterns of climate, performance of seasonal forecasts, and impacts on food security;
2.    discuss the rainy season outlook, its possible implications on climate-sensitive sectors which are also relevant in food security, and possible response options;
3.    discuss mechanisms to bridge technical limitations and sector-specific climate information requirements

4. Media Training on Reporting Seasonal Climate Forecasts and Risks

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Caritas Cambodia in collaboration with key government stakeholders and the Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) is jointly organizing the Media Training  on “Reporting Seasonal Climate Forecasts and Risks” to be held on 02 May 2012 at Caritas Cambodia. The objectives of the meeting are to:
a)    Enhance the capacity of journalists and media representatives to understand and report on seasonal climate forecasts and issues related to climate risk management in a way that can be easily understood and used by a range of potential users to make better decisions
b)    Connect journalists to  key climate stakeholders in Cambodia 
c)    Make available a package of climate information  source for journalists and media representatives

5. Caritas is on Mission to Deliver Food Assistances to People Suffered by Flood

Since the flood situation is still bad, Caritas Cambodia is willing to deliver more humanitarian aids to those who are the most affected by flood. It has delivered the assistances to 1.000 of families in Kampong Thom, Kandal, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, Battambang and Preah Vihear. Caritas keeps doing the relief as long as the urgent needs is still needed.

7.Training on Disaster in Battambang

Caritas Cambodia-Battambang program cooperated with National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) to organize training on “Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction” for the communities and authorities from Samlot, Rattanak Mondul and Bovel district. This training will be help on September 19-20, 2011 at King Hotel in Battambang province to provide 46 trainees (16 females) the knowledge about disaster, risk reduction and assessment, disaster preparedness, response, and rehabilitation.

8. Workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Psychosocial Support

Caritas Cambodia-Kampong Thom program is going to conduct a follow up workshop to raise the awareness on Disaster Preparedness and Psychosocial Support to Caritas’s staff, local authority and its partners.
This workshop will be help on 14-17 September and 03-07 October 2011. There will also another workshop will be held for the community workers on 17-21 October 2011. Lessons on disaster types and impacts, Psychosocial needs after disaster, and other relevant stuff will be included in the workshop.

9. ASEAN FARMERS FORUM
Two indigenous farmers from Caritas-Mondulkiri and two Caritas staffs have been invited to join the ASEAN Farmer Forum that will be help in the Philippines on 19-23 September, 2011.

10. World Housing Forum

Caritas Cambodia delegate is going to join the 3rd Asia-Pacific Housing Forum in Thailand on September 7-9, 2011. The theme will be on “Sustainable Shelter in an Age of Climate Change and Disasters”. This forum brings together government and private sector representatives, social housing practitioners and academics to exchange information, research and best practices for meeting the housing needs of the poor. The two main objectives of the forum are:

1    To address the urgent and widespread problem of substandard housing in the context of building sustainable homes
2    To resilient communities in a changing global climate.
