Right Based Approach and Advocacy

Right Based Approach and Advocacy (RBA) is the mainstreaming program. “Right Based Approach to development focus on the most marginalized and excluded in society, strengthening their claims to social, political and economic resources”.

RBA is a right based approach to development that brings human rights as a frame of reference in human development.

Why Right Based Approach is needed? Right Based Approach of Caritas Cambodia has positive impacts concerning to human right practice. When speaking of a right based approach, we are referring to human rights not legal rights.

Human right is much broader category including not only the rights guaranteed in national legislation and constitution. Right Based Approach prohibits development policies or initiatives that violate social or economic rights or increase inequalities in the pursuit of economic growth. RBA also adds legal force to development work and requires the government to prioritize their resources in accordance with stated human rights principles and obligations.

"Every individual is born with justice, dignity and human rights"

RBA will be integrated in all the programs implementation with the special focus on creating education awareness, trainings on human right basic. There will be capacity building to Caritas’s staffs, the community’s residents and local and government authorities in order to make them knowledgeable of the human rights concept.

Right Based Approach is also a sectorial program. We build and create network with other human right organizations in order to sharing information, experience, issues analysis, trainings and documentation. Advocacy work is also concentrated.
