Preview on Flooding and Caritas’s Response

Since the flood situation is still bad and the urgent need is still called for, Caritas Cambodia aims at providing more humanitarian aids to those who are the most affected flood victim.Kandal and Prey Veng are on alert after rising waters along the Mekong River killed 56 people and submerged more than 5,500 hectares of rice paddy.

There are18 provinces affected by flood and water levels in Kampong Thom is the hardest hit province. So far Caritas Cambodia has delivered the humanitarian assistances to nearly 6,500 families in Kampong Thom, Kandal, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, and Preah Vihear province.

Caritas has provided the following assistances to 3197 families in Kampong Svay district and Steng Sen City in Kampong Thom province, 800 families in Siem Reap province's Banteay Srey, Prasat Bakong and Chikreng district, 450 families in Preah Vihear province's Chhep district , 950 families in Kandal province's Lvea Em district.

 

 

Recently on 22 and 25 November 2011, Caritas delivered aids to 1006 families in Pea Reang and Sithor Kandal district, Prey Veng province. Caritas is willing to provide more relief as the urgent needs are still needed.According to the NCDM’s statistic on November 20, 2011, the official death stood at 247,
an estimated 698 houses, 1289 schools, 427 pagodas and 233,484 hectares of rice paddies had been damaged.
