Seven districts in Kampong Thom have been affected by floods that have inundated 11,899 hectares of rice fields, 40 kilometers of road, two pagodas and 19 schools, Phnom Penh Post reported yesterday.

Preah Vihear and Battambang provinces were also inundated the day before yesterday, with water levels on the Sangkae River reportedly rising to 13.3 met-res, the news website Cambn reported last two nights.“About 350 families have  also been affected by the floodwaters,” Chhun Chhorn  said, adding that so far there was no evidence to suggest that rice crops in the province had been affected by the flooding, , Phnom Penh Post reported yesterday.

Ministry of water resources and meteorology repeatedly announced on Sep 15, 2011 to Cambodian people who live along lower Mekong River to take all possible precaution as the water levels keep rising.

The announcement has also told that due to the weather forecast the water levels situation in Cambodia have to be precautional measure.Water levels in Steung Treng, Kratie and Kompong Cham province will be rising in 3 or 4 days ahead so the people there must take much caution. The government has organized a meeting in Kampong Thom yesterday to discuss on flood and rapid assessment to collect the information and scope of the damaged caused by flood.

The government, National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) has called for assistance from Caritas Cambodia and other NGOs to help the victims.Caritas Cambodia will go to the flood areas to make an immediate study and assessment; however, Caritas Cambodia has already prepared to response to the needs of the victim in cooperated with other NGOs and Government Partners.
