To strengthen local capacity on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation to commune committee, Caritas Cambodia and National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) co-organize the trainings every year for those who live in the vulnerable area. “Since our village lacks human resource in disaster management, this training is important and beneficial to me and other participants. I would bring what I had learnt to share with my villagers so that they could protect themselves from the disaster,” said Ul Lina, 22, secretary of Caritas-Village Development Association (VDA) of Me Pai village, Pou Chrey commune, Pechrada district. |

Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction training was held on August 09-10, 2011 at the Caritas-Mondulkiri’s office to provide trainees the knowledge about disaster, risk reduction and assessment, disaster preparedness, response, and rehabilitation. Most of all 23 participants (3 women) from four communes of Pechrada district are indigenous group called Phnong. Trainees learned a lot from the training as they paid much attention on it, especially they got actively involved in discussing, sharing ideas, asking and answering the questions. |

Yorng Phal, 38, Pou Louk village chief, said he learnt a lot on how to response in case there is any disasters happen in his area. “If there were any disaster, we could make plan and know who and where to ask for helps,” he added. At the end of the training, participants were taking a quiz to test their understanding about the disaster and consequently. Two of all participants got 100% correct answers.
